The Tivon Method of "Authority as a Whole- Mastering"
"Mastering" is a therapeutic method which re-defines and re-places the subject of authority, upon its numerous aspects in a different framework than is practice today. The method is easily understood and perceived. It facilitates the forming of acommon language, which is based on common symbols and clear rules, and is adapted to various populations.
The Method of "Authority as a Whole” (Mastering) has been developed as a tool for the therapy of families in crisis and educational organizations dealing with severe situations of loss of authority. It has been in use since 1995. Its application started in kibbutz surroundings, and has progressed to a broad range of uses in communal, organizational and clinical use. The Model combines family-system thinking, individual clinical knowledge and knowledge from the field of organizational consulting.
The method is currently working at "Nirim", a youth village for children with behavioral & adjustments problems, in I.D.F. programs for soldiers with the same difficulties and low levels of education (for more than 10 years), in schools and various therapeutic and educational systems. The system has attained significant and particular achievements in the family field, and in various civilian, military, educational contexts.
The method is currently being studied and acquired by various professionals at The Hebrew University in Jerusalem, at professional workshops for psychologists, counselors, group-moderators, family therapists, educators and managing executives.

Using the Mastering Method we can attain the following goals:
On the personal level – How to acquire means to become a meaningful authoritative person, influential as a therapist, a parent or a teacher, all of these in an era of uncertainty, an era in which there is a basic difficulty in building authority.
On the family level – The Method is a useful tool for analysis and evaluation, for the mapping of various contexts and interactions. It Helps us create a common language that is very accessible for the patients during work with families. It also provides tools for intervention and building of parent's competence in difficult situations, with families of varied backgrounds.
On the organizational level – The method defines what the expectations required by the system applying “Authority as a Whole”, and how to benefit the organization in regard to the forming and arranging of positions and the relationships in it.
The method offers practical tools for mapping the setting of goals for intervention.
